fundamental radio

Fundamental Radio was the name for a 5 year collaboration with Markus Seidl starting in 1997. What began as a weekly live radio show on FM 105 Mhz in Linz, Austria of raw sound and experimental chit-chat, quickly evolved into a concept band, producing works for television, gallery installations, workshops, and public intervention.

A main underlying theme was communication and networks. Many of the shows were produced live from locations outside the studio, streaming audio live to the broadcaster. Often we would set up a show in a friends apartment at dinner time. However, on a number of occasions, we were invited to develop a larger framework and context for our streaming events, where the location at hand became the subject for conceptual play. In Lapland, Finland we produced 5 shows over the course of a week 1am till 5am under the midnight sun. In Amsterdam, we exchanged beer for 30 seconds of content from people on the streets at the Leidsplein. In Hobart, Tasmania we developed our own dada-esque language with 12 other media artist from around the globe for a live spoken word radio event at the Tasmanian Museum of Art. At the Freud Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia, we premiered our Hard Drive Orchestra. Our most famous endeavor, however, was the very first live underwater radio show.
